Recycled crafts

I am always looking at every item in the recycling bin in my home trying to figure out if I can make it in to anything. It drives my family nuts. I sometimes get great idea's from other peoples blogs. Today I figured out that a Pringles can lid would make a great serving tray for an American Girl Doll. When I get it made it will be a post. Any other great ideas? It will be seen I guess.

Well lately I have been busy busy busy with Cub scouts and Science projects and Halloween costumes. I hope you had a very Happy Halloween. I am happy to report that my son's Cavity Sam (aka the body in the Operation game) costume was a smashing success and he won 2 contests. It proves that the idea is half the battle because I really rushed this year to complete it and it was not my cleanest paint job or my best work. I used his old Gi pants from karate and a plain white t-shirt then painted them to look like the board, both sides, because the area around Sam is yellow. I made the funatomy parts from felt or craft foam, he had an old blackberry at his waist that had a recording of the game sounds on it and a blinking reindeer nose, and a pair of tongs for his tweezers that I anchored in with the cell phone on a belt, and I used a piece of craft lacing to make the cord for the tweezers. He had the brain freeze  edition of the game so he had a head band with brain freeze on it. In between his scout party and the town contest on Halloween I scanned the brain freeze removal card and the money and printed them oversized. I glues them to fun foam and then added them to the head band. I felt that they were missing.

Not the best photo for quality but this room has bad lighting for photography as most churches do in their community rooms. This is with his younger brother who was the doctor (sadly store bought, Momma ran out of time) to go with his Operation.  This was from scouts.

Here he is with the added game pieces to his headband, I liked how you could see less of the head band better. I had a hard time getting any of the guys (those are some of his buddies in the background) to stand till for a photo they were geared up for sugar. He won Best in Show.

New item in our Etsy Shop

I have recently added Doll sized Tennis Bracelets to the shop.

They are made out of rhinestone chain and require the chain ends and jump rings and a clasp. You need 2 pair of needle nose pliers to make one.

I attach the ends on first after I determine how many stones I need to wrap around the dolls wrist. It changes with the size of the stones.  Then I twist the jump rings open and use them to hold the clasp on to the end I attached to the chain. I twist the jump rings closed, then tug on the ends to be certain they are good and secure.

These take a bit more effort to put on as you don't have a ton of room to work the clasp, but I did experiment with one that was a tad bigger but it didn't sit on her wrist nice.

Another Video of the crafts we make....

Ok so here is another video of some of the jewelry we made and sell on our Etsy page. I chose the parts and my Hubby assembles them. Making the loop takes practice and 2 pair of needle nose pliers.

We used Sterling silver head pins, jump rings, caps, posts and backs. You put on cap on the head pin, then the Swardovski crystal, then a second cap. He then creats a loop out of the end of the head pin and he uses the two pair of pliers. I have tried it. I am not good at it. You may want to purchase inexpensive head pins to practice with. He cuts the excess length of the head pin. They sell several different decorative head pins in Sterling Silver at Michaels and AC Moore.

If he is making them as a pair of earrings, he then attaches the jump rings by twisting them open with the two pair of pliers. It is very important to not pull a jump ring apart. You need to twist them so the ring will stay round and close properly. The jum rings are attached to the loop on the silver post.

They make a beautiful gift.

New Blog- Here's to the beginning...

I thought that I'd start a blog to talk about the different crafts we make and have for sale on our Etsy account. I'd like to share tips on where we purchase supplies and find materials, and easy cute ideas for gifts. Perhaps a favorite recipe or two along the road.
